Natural deaths among Moroccan pilgrims, according to the ministry – Discovery Morocco

According to the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, the current Hajj 1445 season has not experienced an “abnormal situation” regarding the deaths of Moroccan pilgrims, with a toll comparable to that of previous years.

Context of the deaths of Moroccan pilgrims during the Hajj 1445

During this Hajj season, twenty deaths were recorded among Moroccan pilgrims. These losses, which are within the historical average, were mainly “natural deaths”, as highlighted in the ministry press release. This announcement contradicts rumors of major incidents or unfavorable conditions for Moroccan pilgrims this year.

This situation differs from that experienced by Egyptians who experienced more than 500 deaths due to poor management by travel agencies.

Comparative analysis with previous years

The ministry recalls that, over the last twenty years, the number of deaths among Moroccan pilgrims has always oscillated between 30 and 45 cases. This year, with a total of 20 deaths, the toll is in the low range, which can be considered a positive result given the often difficult conditions of the pilgrimage.

Profile of pilgrims and causes of death

A notable detail of this year is the age of the pilgrims: 15% of Moroccan participants in the Hajj were over 80 years old. This important statistic highlights the aging demographics of the participants and partly explains the nature of the deaths, all described as natural by the authorities.

Reactions and measures taken

Faced with these figures, the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs wanted to reassure families and the public by affirming that all the necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims had been taken. The press release also highlights the effectiveness of official organizations and travel agencies in managing the pilgrimage, which makes it possible to maintain a relatively stable mortality rate from year to year.

The results of this year of the Hajj for Moroccan pilgrims reflect positive management of the pilgrimage despite the logistical and health challenges. With a number of deaths from natural causes identified, Moroccan authorities hope to continue providing a safe and spiritually enriching experience for all participants.
