Officials said Friday that Lebanon was studying a U.S. proposal for a truce in the war between Hezbollah and Israel.
At the same time, Hamas said it was ready for a ceasefire with the Jewish state in Gaza.
Towards an outcome in the coming weeks? The American ambassador to Beirut, Lisa Johnson, presented to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the head of Parliament, Nabih Berri, a truce plan in the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
A senior Lebanese official told AFP that this 13-point proposal includes a cessation of hostilities for 60 days and the deployment of the army in southern Lebanon, on the border with the Jewish state. “Mr Berri asked for a three-day delay”assures this source. A second government source also confirmed that such a text was under study.
At the same time, in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Hamas said it was open to discussions to stop the fighting. “Hamas is ready to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in case a ceasefire proposal is presented and on the condition that (Israel) respects it”says a member of his political office, Bassem Naïm, by calling “the American administration and Trump to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop the aggression” in Gaza.
