Rallycross: a promising first day

Rallycross: a promising first day
Rallycross: a promising first day

The rain was very present, Saturday June 22, in the morning, above the Tourneix circuit. Enough to soak up the Castelroussin site. Conditions far from ideal to allow drivers to find their feet. The track marshals were not idle, forced to intervene on several occasions to get out of stuck cars. Fortunately, around 11 a.m., the rain stopped, gradually allowing classic conditions to return.

The first two qualifying rounds therefore took place normally. With a few false starts, a few jostling at the first corner, but ultimately nothing unusual for rallycross. However, due to interventions by the tow truck, the day dragged on. The checkered flag closing the day was displayed at 6:30 p.m., more than ten hours after the start of the debates. A copious menu that could only satisfy the most demanding in terms of spectacle.

Five drivers to win in supercars

At the end of the first two rounds, the beginnings of a hierarchy emerged in the different categories on the program. From there to saying that the winners of Saturday will be those of Sunday, there is a step that should definitely not be taken. Indeed, in the supercar category, there are five of them grouped together at one point, proof of the homogeneity of the field. Thus, Vincent and Peu, each at the wheel of a Peugeot 208, winners of the heats, had the same intermediate total as Meunier (VW Polo) and were only one length ahead of Bossard (Hyundai) and Pailler (208 ).

For his part, Davy Jeanney (Skoda) had a difficult first day, experiencing starting problems. This caused him to lose a lot of time, finishing sixteenth and sixth in both heats and ending the day in eleventh position.

The situation was clearer in Super-1600 with the two victories of Julien Meunier (Skoda) and the second places of Terpereau (Peugeot 208). In D3, Beauclé (Mercedes) and Janot (Peugeot 208) shared the successes and are at the top of the ranking. Same thing for Mauduit (Renault Clio) and Le Lay (Peugeot 207) in D4, Gouesbet and Lumet in the juniors and Corolleur and Danveau in the women’s category. This means that Sunday promises to be an exciting day with two rounds and the final stages on the programme.
