A fire broke out late Wednesday afternoon in the Marcel-Pagnol school group, in the suburbs of Lyon. In total, four fire outbreaks were spotted.
Two days after the terrible fire which affected the Marcel-Pagnol school group in Meyzieu (Rhône), investigators are continuing their investigations. The first elements of the investigation suggest that the origin of the fire was “criminal”, according to information from Progress . As part of the criminal investigation opened by the Lyon public prosecutor’s office for “intentional damage by fire”two minors were arrested and placed in police custody by the DIPN du Rhône, confirms the Lyon prosecutor’s office at Figaro.
On Wednesday, a fire broke out around 6:45 p.m. in this establishment in the suburbs of Lyon. In total, four fires, in front and behind the school, were detected on the scene. Only the primary school was affected by the flames. If no victims were recorded in the balance sheet, the material damage is more significant.
240 students will finish the year in a neighboring establishment
Two classes, one on the ground floor and the other upstairs, were ravaged by the flames. “The damage caused will prevent elementary students from finishing the school year in their classroom”, specified the municipality on Wednesday. In a press release published Thursday, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region gave details on the extent of the damage. “Several classes, common areas such as the after-school area, the refectory and the corridors”, specifies the press release.
The 240 students at Marcel-Pagnol primary school will still be able to finish their school year. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region announced in its press release that “the new Colonel-Arnaud-Beltrame high school inaugurated in September 2023” will be requisitioned to accommodate them. The two establishments are only a few kilometers apart. In total, ten classes are affected by this system. The affected school will remain closed for an indefinite period.
