It is a solidarity now written. The city of Orléans (Loiret) made a commitment, during the municipal council of Wednesday November 13, 2024to sign an agreement with the Ukrainian city of Kherson.
A signature via a European collaboration program with the country at war.
Resting far from bombs, the objective of the initiative
The signing of this agreement will allow twenty young Ukrainians to come to Loiret to visit the department and rest away from the bombs.
The idea had been put forward at a previous municipal council in February 2024.
And this is a new level that the city of Orléans is taking in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
“This agreement will allow twenty young people, whose father is at the front, to come for 15 days in the Loiretnear Orléans, to visit Paris or the region. But above all, rest away from the war,” recalls Gauthier Dabout, municipal councilor in charge of Solidarity.
Orléans and Loiret had already welcomed Ukrainians after Chernobyl, notably by families and it is true that some of them have reactivated their desire to welcome.
What is Europe Prykhystok?
This is a program aimed at connecting local actors from different European countries with Ukrainian cities. The result of this collaboration: welcoming a group of young Ukrainians for two to three weeks to offer them a respite, far from the war. Orléans is part of an already well-stocked list of French cities that have collaborated with the program. Let us note Nancy, Dieppe, Gennevilliers, Dunkirk and even Tomblaine.
The initiative was adopted at unanimity by the council.
