The food product sections on promotion attract many consumers, but also the toy sections as the rush of the race for Christmas gifts approaches.
This Thursday, November 14, 2024, agents of the Val-d’Oise Departmental Directorate for Population Protection (Ddpp 95) carried out an extensive control of the prices of the products sold by the supermarket Auchan of Portes de Taverny shopping center (Val-d’Oise). Actions which multiplied throughout the year, to “protect consumers by participating in the defense of their purchasing power”, underlined the prefect of Val-d’Oise, Philippe Courtfollowing an inspection carried out in an E.Leclerc supermarket.
“Prize cart” operation
Following a “cart – price” operation, consisting of choosing common items and checking, at checkout, that the prices displayed and those invoiced to the consumer are indeed the same, Ddpp 95 inspectors noted 23 references failing to display the price. The Val-d’Oise prefecture thus indicates that an administrative report was drawn up for the purpose of issuing an administrative fine.
Two Auchan supermarkets fined in one month
This is the second time in the space of a month that an Auchan brand store has been financially sanctioned for a failure to display prices. On October 15, 2024, it was the Arnouville supermarket which was pinned down by the prefecture services.
Even when the difference between the price displayed and the price paid is only 50 cents or 1 euro, that still means something to customers. There is an issue of protection, but also a desire to restore consumer confidence, so that consumers do not feel like they are being ripped off.
The State representative thus specified that shopping cart price checks are organized every week in large and medium-sized food stores, but also in DIY stores. And like what is done during restaurant closures, if a significant number of offenses are noted against the brand, “our services will continue to publish the name and address. It’s a question of transparency,” insists the prefect of Val-d’Oise.
