Cégep Gérald-Godin received the 2024 Francophone Collegial Pillar award from the Réseau des cégeps et des colleges francophones du Canada (RCCFC) highlighting its sustained commitment and its promising achievements over the last 25 years.
The general director of the Cégep, Julie Pelletier, received the award with great emotion last Wednesday, November 6 as part of the RCCFC annual conference, on behalf of all the committed people who, over time, established the Cégep Gérald-Godin not only as a center of post-secondary knowledge, a center for citizen development and training of qualified workers, but also as a determining player in French-speaking life in its region. She recognized the valuable contribution of the teaching staff,
professional staff, support staff and management staff.
She also highlighted the contribution of the general directorates, the study directors and the members of the Board of Directors who have succeeded one another over the years, then she greeted the members of the Association des francophones de l’Ouest-de- l’Île who claimed a French-speaking CEGEP in their region before 1999 as well as the team from the Pauline-Julien room, a partner from the start.
Two ambassadors rewarded
In addition, a ceremony was held last Monday, November 11 at the Cégep library, during which two ambassadors dedicated to student success received this award on behalf of the Godinois community: Sylvie Vartian, literature teacher, and Daniela Barsan, educational advisor responsible for francization.
The two recipients underlined the value of this recognition and the importance of the daily contribution of staff in regular education, continuing education, business services and francization in French study courses. They also affirmed that this distinction constitutes an encouragement to redouble their efforts for a strong and lasting Francophonie.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to highlight the recognized strengths of the Cégep: its transversal approach in the study programs, its measures to support success, its support for students in their preparation for the test. French uniform as well as its expertise in innovation and research which has grown over the years and is shared across Quebec and Canada, then internationally.
The recent inauguration of the Center for Research and Innovation in Educational Francophonie, with its Literacy Teaching Support Laboratory (LabSEL), marks a milestone in the Cégep’s contribution to the influence of the French language. This center brings together
expertise of the establishment in sociolinguistic research, development of language skills, and teaching of literacies in French. Its cooperation and knowledge transfer activities, carried out at the local, national and international levels, contribute significantly to the protection and promotion of the French language in Canada and elsewhere.
The Francophone Collegial Pillar Prize is awarded each year by the RCCFC to honor a
person or organization dedicated to French-speaking education in Canada. This award recognizes significant contributions allowing the French-speaking college network to distinguish itself on several levels, as well as the anniversaries of institutions that have stood out for the quality of their commitment and their achievements.
