Aby Dieng was sentenced Tuesday by the judge of the Dakar Court for flagrante delictos to 1 year in prison. Pregnant with her husband before marriage, the student had her 6-month pregnancy terminated by removing the fetus before throwing it into a septic tank.

According to the newspaper L’observer, the events took place 1 month after his marriage to Serigne Saliou. Before their union was sealed, the two young people completed five years of romantic relationship during which they had unprotected sexual relations. Some time later, the defendant began to notice signs of a pregnancy.

Realizing that she is pregnant and for fear that her marriage will be annulled, Aby decides to keep it a secret, even her husband could not detect a change in her. She maintained her secret until after the marriage which was finally sealed last October. Knowing that the birth will be soon, Aby Dieng has not found a better solution to her problem than to terminate her pregnancy.

Still according to the newspaper, to succeed in her act, the defendant went to the toilet to remove the 6-month-old fetus. Afterwards, she throws him into the septic tank before returning to her activities as if nothing had happened. But his act will not go unnoticed. She will be unmasked by her roommate Pape Seck who, after noticing that the septic tank was blocked, called an unblocker. The tenants of this house living in Ben Tally almost fell over when the firefighters removed a female fetus from the septic tank.

The investigation once launched will reveal that Aby Dieng is the author of the facts. Heard as a witness, her husband Serigne Saliou Faye says he is unaware of his wife’s pregnancy, even if he admits to being the author.

At the Dakar Court for flagrante delictos, Aby Dieng disputes the facts. In his defense; she will tell the Court that she was unaware of her pregnancy.

“I had stomach aches and instantly, I wanted to go to the bathroom. When I went to the bathroom, I saw that I was bleeding profusely. I thought it was my period as I could go 4 months without seeing it. Afterwards, I saw something come out but I didn’t know what it was… I don’t understand what happened. I haven’t terminated any pregnancies since I didn’t even know I was pregnant. I am married. I don’t need to terminate my pregnancy,” she defended.

But at the end of the hearing, the Court declared her guilty and sentenced her to 1 year.
