Ajax Amsterdam and Burnley are close to finalizing the transfer of Wout Weghorst, the Dutch striker, scorer of the Netherlands’ winning goal against Poland at the Euro. Discussions between the two clubs have progressed well and both parties are confident the deal will be concluded imminently.

Wout Weghorst, 31, is a powerful and experienced striker, known for his efficiency in front of goal and his imposing physical presence. Arriving at Burnley in 2021, the Dutch striker did not have the opportunity to show his value to the leaders. Loaned directly to Besiktas until the winter transfer window, then to Manchester United for the other half of the season, Weghorst did not play once for Burnley. He was loaned for a year the following season to Hoffenheim where he played 28 matches for 7 goals and 3 assists. The centre-forward is looking to revive his career and Burnley to offload a player who has not played a game for the club. His time at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga had nevertheless demonstrated his talent, with prolific seasons in terms of goals.

Ajax, under the leadership of Maurice Steijn, is looking to strengthen its offensive sector to remain competitive both domestically and in Europe. Weghorst, with his experience and prolific goalscoring profile, represents an ideal target. The Dutch club hope his arrival will add depth to their attack and increase their chances of success in the Eredivisie and Europa League.

Negotiations between Burnley and Ajax Amsterdam have progressed quickly, with both clubs close to reaching an agreement. Weghorst’s transfer is estimated to be worth around €6 million. Both clubs are optimistic and confident that the deal will be concluded in the coming days.
