A tragedy which caused the death of seven people. This Tuesday, June 18, on departmental road 921 near Bailleau-le-Pin, about fifteen kilometers south of
Chartres, three cars were involved in a violent road accident, reports The Parisian.
“A first vehicle which was traveling in the direction Illiers-Combray – Chartres, in which there were five young people, collided with another vehicle which was traveling in the opposite direction, in which the elderly couple were”explained Frédéric Blanc, the director of the prefect’s office.
A frontal collision which led to a collision of the first vehicle with a third coming in the opposite direction.
A heavy toll
The five young people, aged 17 to 19remained stuck in the vehicle which caught fire and could not be saved. Firefighters were able to extricate their bodies from the vehicle once the flames were extinguished. The victims were from this area south of Chartres. Two lived in Lucé, one in Bailleau-le-Pin, one from Illiers-Combray and one in Berchères-les-Pierres, details Republican Echo.
The couple who were in the second car were from Illiers-Combray. The man and woman, aged 80 and 85,
died at the time of impact. In the third vehicle, the 23-year-old woman and the 21-year-old young man were injured and were rushed to the Chartres hospital center.
An open investigation
The mayor of Bailleau-le-Pin, Martial Lochon spoke on

The autopsies of the victims will take place in the coming days and an investigation has been opened to homicide and unintentional injuries. On site, a helicopter, two Smur vehicles and around forty firefighters were mobilized.
