BMW unveils the fourth generation of its X3 SUV, which will hit the market at the end of the year. Like those of its rivals Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC and Volvo XC 60, its dress sports a transitional design between that of current models, particularly the X1, and the future Neue Klasse. The novelty lies in the detail, with a very original grille focusing as much on the vertical as on the oblique. A gimmick that the restyled BMW 1 Series has just released.

Two petrol, one diesel, one plug-in to start

Finally, the 30e plug-in hybrid version will combine the 2-liter gasoline engine of the 20 “all in all” with an electric machine with a cumulative power of 299 hp. The new BMW X3 PHEV offers an electric range of between 81 and 90 km, depending on equipment. Subsequently, the BMW X3 range will be enriched with a six-cylinder diesel engine and especially the 100% electric version, the BMW iX3. xDrive all-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic gearbox come standard across the range, which is available in two trim levels X3 and M Sport. Prices for the new BMW X3 start at €63,900 and reach €89,900.

A modernized dashboard

The dashboard of the new BMW X3 integrates the digital block now widely used in the rest of the range. Namely, a double slab of 12.3 inches diagonal in a row. The latter can be optionally supplemented by a head-up display. No more instrumentation under the hood, this new X3 seems much more modern from this point of view. The trunk volume increases by around ten dm3 under shelf in 5-seater configuration, and up to 100 dm3 when the backrests are folded. Thus, the carrying capacity of the new BMW X3 is between 570 and 1,700 dm3. But it is limited to 460 and 1,600 dm3 respectively for the plug-in hybrid BMW X3, which must fit its battery under the trunk floor. The BMW X3, which, like its predecessors, will have a global career, is assembled in the Spartanburg factories in the United States and Rosslyn in South Africa.
