Prize ceremony for the International Competition for Minority Artists | City of Geneva

Created in 2022 by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in partnership with Minority Rights Group International and Freemuse, and with the collaboration of the City of Geneva, this competition supports artists engaged in the defense of human rights around the world.

Organized this year at Arts Center of the International School of Genevathe competition highlights the journeys, commitment and work of the eight winning artists of this edition who explored the theme of “Memory in the present”.

Artistic commitment

These artists, from different countries and contexts, are distinguished by their artistic commitment and their interpretation of experiences both personal and collective, as members of national, linguistic, religious or ethnic minorities.

In countries where minorities have endured human rights violations, art and creativity play a fundamental role in memorialization, reparation, reconciliation and transitional justice. The works of these artists highlight the importance of recognizing the past and memory in the realization of human rights today and for tomorrow.

In parallel with the competition, the “Arts, minorities and human rights” exhibition installed at the Arts Center is still open to the public until December 18, 2024.
