Amazon would it in turn launch into the connected glasses market? In a way: the distribution giant could soon equip its drivers with connected glasses in order to optimize deliveries by providing detailed instructions and thus save precious seconds during deliveries. This project is part of the company's strategy to improve efficiency in the last few meters of delivery, which would further enable drivers to transport more packages per day. The development of these glasses, which would be based on the technology of Echo Frameshowever, presents significant technical challenges, particularly in terms of battery life and weight of the accessory. Sources indicate that Amazon also needs to convince its drivers, largely subcontractors, to adopt this new technology.

The project also raises ethical and privacy concerns, reminiscent of controversies around AI cameras already used in Amazon's delivery vans. These cameras, which constantly record drivers, have attracted widespread criticism regarding intrusive surveillance and the risk of “leaks” of recorded videos. Connected glasses would be likely to increase this feeling of surveillance, with some fearing a dehumanization of delivery people subject to the requirements of AI. Despite these difficulties and these criticisms, Amazon seems more determined than ever to develop solutions to reduce delivery costs…
