Good news for all those waiting for its opening. Despite the terrible fire which ravaged part of the site, the Barcarès Christmas Village (Pyrénées-Orientales) will indeed open its doors this year. Initially scheduled for this Saturday, November 16, 2024, the opening has been postponed by one week.
Opening postponed for only a week
It was on its Facebook page that the Christmas Village announced the good news. Despite the terrible fire which ravaged 3,000 m², Monday November 11, the Lydia site will reopen to the public from Saturday November 23.
The flames, which gave images as impressive as they were worrying, will therefore not go delay the event for only one week. A real relief for all the professionals mobilized for the biggest event of the winter season in the Catalan country.
The Christmas Village ravaged in the night
As a reminder, Monday November 11, around 4:30 a.m., a fire broke out on the site which was to welcome the public from Saturday November 16.
“The alert was given by the teams responsible for protecting the installation site, reporting an outbreak of fire which quickly impacted seven wooden chalets, three maritime caissons and four refrigerated trucks,” announced the departmental fire service. fire and rescue of the Pyrénées-Orientales (SDIS 66).
The intervention mobilized 61 firefighters. The origin of the incident is currently unknown. For its part, the City of Barcarès clarified that this disaster was “probably accidental”.
