A cargo plane linking Germany and Lithuania crashed this Monday morning, November 25, near Vilnius airport, killing at least one person, firefighters said. “The plane crashed a few kilometers from the airport”Renatas Pozela, head of the fire and rescue service, told the press, adding that one of the four crew members was found dead. The other three crew members were found alive.

The cargo plane belonged to the carrier DHL and was flying from Leipzig, Germany, to Vilnius, the capital's airport said on X. The crash took place at 5:30 a.m. local time in Liepkalnis, near the airport from Vilnius. During the crash, followed by a fire, a house caught fire. The authorities clarified that all residents had been evacuated safely.

DHL confirmed that the plane belonged to them. “I can confirm that more than one shipment was transported, these were shipments from various customers”Ausra Rutkauskien, a DHL Lithuania manager told local media. The accident did not disrupt flights at Vilnius airport.
