Ballon d’Or 2024: Two journalists admit voting error for Rodri instead of Vinicius

Panamanian journalist Campo Elias Estrada, representing Tiro al Gol, admitted to making two mistakes when voting for the “2024 Ballon d’Or”. In a comment to Spanish newspaper Marca, he explained that he initially intended to vote for Real Madrid striker Vinicius and wanted to put Rodri fifth instead of Dani Olmo.

“It was my mistake,” Estrada said. “Instead of Rodri, Olmo’s name appeared. Unfortunately, I encountered some issues while voting on the platform. When I selected my ten candidates, the system messed up the results during an update — the numbers got mixed up and lost their order among the ten candidates. I had to log in to the platform three times to vote. I only noticed the error a few days later, when I reread the letter in detail, because I had recorded my candidates on paper. »

Estrada also pointed out the flaws in the voting process and asserted its impartiality:

“This had never happened to me before; my vote was completely impartial, I do not support any club. I never considered Rodri among the top three and placed him fifth, but due to an inadvertent error his name did not appear,” the journalist reported by TMW.

This is the second admission of error

It should be noted that Campo Elias Estrada is the second journalist to admit an error. Finnish journalist Juha Kanerva from Ilta-Sanoma also admitted that a similar situation occurred during the vote.

He cited a “technical error,” which changed his vote — Rodri accidentally took first place instead of Vinicius. Kanerva immediately declared that he plans to leave the Ballon d’Or panel: “I intend to resign from the voting committee. »
