At the beginning of the afternoon, a fire broke out in Païta in the area of the Saint-Léon home this Tuesday, November 12. About ten homes were near the flames.
Charred trees, around ten homes threatened, this Tuesday, November 12, a major fire threatened the town of Païta. “It’s a fire that was quickly pushed by the changing winds”. The flames spread “from one subdivision to another quite quickly”specifies the cCommander Gwenval Cambon, head of the fire brigade Païta. The Saint-Léon home was subject to flames, as were the houses in the Lafleur and Niaoulis subdivisions. Around ten vehicles were deployed as well as a bomber helicopter. The local fire brigade intervened with the help of civil security and the national fire brigade.
In all, around ten homes were threatened and twenty hectares burned. Even though the fire is now fixed, despite everything, the firefighters remain vigilant. “We are going to have a surveillance system this evening, tonight, and even tomorrow to secure as many border areas as possible and avoid the risk of relapses.”
The fire started around 1 p.m. around the Saint-Léon home in the center of the town. A police investigation is underway to determine the causes. No casualties have been reported.
