Back in mainland France after its overseas journey, the flame is in the Alpes-Maritimes (06) this Tuesday, June 18. In this department, a total of 154 porters will take over. The day will begin at Villefranche sur mer at 8:05 a.m. (until 8:35 a.m.). Departing from the open sea, from the harbor, the flame will dock at the Quai de l’Amiral Courbet. After which, it will leave the ferry terminal on its left, pass in front of the Sainte-Elme Chapel before reaching the citadel.

Then head to Oily, the world capital of perfumes (from 9:05 a.m. to 9:53 a.m.). The flame will start from the Louis-Perdigon stadium, heading to the Place du Cours Honoré-Creps.

Climbing the steps of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes

Then it will be time to win Cannes (from 11:28 a.m. to 12:27 p.m. for a climb of the steps of the Palais des festivals et des congrès. Previously, the relay will have started from the Port du Moure Rouge, along the coast, and after stopping at the Palais des festivals, will finish its race at Suquet.

The flame is then expected to Valberg (from 1:18 p.m. to 1:28 p.m.) where it will perform a sort of loop between Place Charles Ginesy and the Swiss Chalet.

In Antibes-Juan-les-Pins (from 3:07 p.m. to 4:22 p.m.), a twin town with Olympia, the route starts at Point Bacon, follows the coastline towards the north to Fort-Carré, above the Port of Antibes, via the ramparts, the Picasso Museum.

The sequel will take place Valdeblore – La Colmiane and its ski resort at the gates of the Mercantour National Park (from 4:33 p.m. to 4:53 p.m.). There, the flame will take a zip line, then reach the Departmental Snow and Altitude School, via the Vésubie road.

The Olympic cauldron lit in Nice

The day will conclude with festivities at Nice (from 5:36 p.m. to 7:20 p.m.), 5th city in France, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The flame will begin its journey through Nice from the west of the Promenade des Anglais. She will walk up to Place Masséna, pass in front of the Villa of the same name, an art and history museum, and in front of the large hotels which contribute to the fame of the avenue.

The French Basketball Federation will provide a collective relay, led by former player Nathalie Lesdema. The two Olympic disciplines will be highlighted: 5×5 and 3×3 in particular, of which Nice hosted the 1st French Open in 2012. The flame will then head towards the port of Nice, via Place Garibaldi following the route of the Green belt. The end of the route will lead to overlooking the Bay of Angels, passing under the castle hill.

After which, the flame will be transported to the docks of the United States, for the celebration and lighting of the cauldron. The celebration site will be free and open to all from 3:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Entertainment will be organized before and after the arrival of the last torchbearer and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron.
