On RMC, the former Girondins de Bordeaux striker, Christophe Dugarry, spoke about the political context around France, which came to the table during the last press conferences of the French Team. For the Bordeaux region, comments made by Kylian Mbappé were disturbing.

“Sorry, but the elections are June 30 and July 7. You can talk about it during the week, once your match is over… You don’t have to talk about it the day before the match… I’m sorry, we don’t talk about that the day before the match. Afterwards, obviously Kylian and the others have the right to express themselves, they are no less capable (of doing so) than anyone, than any French person. Afterwards, I sincerely find that they went too far. You have the right to express yourself, to give your opinion, I have no problem with that. But I think it went too far. There are some sentences that bothered me. There are two sentences that bothered me. The first is ‘I hope I will be proud to wear the French team jersey after July 7’. I think it’s inappropriate, it’s not the right time. What does it mean ? It bothers me, we’re not here for that”

Then, Duga gave the second.

“The one that bothers me even more is ‘there are more important things than tomorrow’s match’. To say that, I’m sorry, it’s not normal… There is nothing more important than this match. Afterwards, what will happen in two weeks or three weeks is something else. You have a match, a responsibility, the French team jersey… I hope that all your life you will be proud of it, because it’s the least you can do. And the day you’re no longer proud of it, well you give it back your jersey, it’s as simple as that. There, to say that there are things more important than the match against Austria, for an international footballer who wears the jersey and armband of the French team, I don’t find that normal. You can express yourself, but on certain sentences, Kylian Mbappé went too far, wanting to do too much. It’s not right, and it bothers me.”
