Following the fire which ravaged part of the Barcarès Christmas Village this Monday morning, the town hall expresses its “ sadness » and its “ consternation » and assures “ do everything possible to allow the opening next week ». The inauguration of this 25th edition was initially planned for this Saturday. “We are doing what is necessary to restore part of the facilities.”
If the damage is considerable over an area of 3,000 squares, the disaster did not damage the various attractions (rides, ice rink, toboggan run…) nor touched the Lydia, the famous sand-covered liner. The seven large wooden chalets which were destroyed were to accommodate the catering part.
« The causes of this fire are probably accidental, but we remain awaiting the results of the ongoing investigation. We will keep the public informed of any developments regarding the situation», Specify the organizers in a press release.
The Barcarès Christmas village attracts around a million visitors each winter, mainly from France and Spain.
