The security situation in the refugee reception areas of Vakaga, Bamingui-Bangoran, Haute Kotto, Ouaka, Mbomou and Haute Mbomou remained relatively stable during the week in question, largely thanks to security force patrols. and the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission (MINUSCA).
On October 28, armed men attacked the village of Krakoma, located 100 km from Ndélé, along the Ouadda road in the Bamingui-Bangoran region. During the attack, they occupied the local school and kidnapped a woman and her six-month-old baby, demanding a ransom in exchange for their release. This incident forced the entire population of Krakoma to flee to nearby fields for safety.
On October 23, two humanitarian workers from the NGO Première Urgence were robbed by armed men in the village of Zobossinda, along the road from Ngarba to Bamingui-Bangoran. The team was traveling to assess conditions at a mobile clinic for Sudanese refugees. This incident disrupted humanitarian access to Sudanese refugees along the Ngarba road.
During the week, 77 Sudanese refugees from 40 households arrived in Korsi, Birao, a slight decrease from the 144 arrivals the previous week. The new arrivals received dry food rations from WFP, as well as basic necessities and emergency shelter kits from UNHCR. Plans are underway to provide cash assistance to new arrivals through UNHCR’s partner FEED.
WFP, in partnership with Ecobank and with the support of UNHCR, CNR, NOURRIR, INTERSOS and members of the refugee committee, is providing cash assistance to Korsi, to complement dry food aid. The distribution, covering the months of October and November 2024, aims to reach 6,400 people in 1,714 households.
