Following the fire in the Barcarès Christmas Village which occurred during the night of this Sunday November 10 to Monday November 11, 2024, the opening of the market will not be able to take place as planned this Saturday November 16, 2024.

During the night of this Sunday 10 to Monday 11 November 2024, at around 4:30 a.m., a fire broke out in the Barcarès Christmas Village. Immediately dispatched to the scene with four pump trucks, two large capacity tankers and support resources, the 61 mobilized fire fighters managed to contain the fire to an area of ​​approximately 3,000 m². Around 7 a.m., the fire was fixed.

Results: seven wooden chalets, three metal boxes and four refrigerated trucks were destroyed by the flames. If for the moment, the exact origin of the disaster remains unknown, according to initial information, the fire was started by the explosion of two gas cylinders in the catering area of ​​the market.

Given the damage, the inauguration of the famous Christmas market, supposed to open its doors this Saturday, November 16, will have to wait a few more days. In a press release, the Barcarès town hall announced that the opening had been postponed until next week: “We are doing everything we can to allow the opening of the Christmas Village next week, and are doing what is necessary to restore part of the facilities.”
