Violent storms expected late Monday: where will they be the strongest?

Stormy episodes are expected at the end of the day in several regions of France this Monday, June 17.

Burgundy and Auvergne should be the first affected, followed by Aquitaine and the Center.

Bad weather linked to a “cold drop” is crossing France this week.

Summer is (still) waiting. Violent storms, sometimes accompanied by hail, are expected in several regions at the start of the week, Météo France predicts. A “cold drop” will cross the country this week, causing significant weather disturbances.

From mid-afternoon, the weather should turn stormy around Auvergne, announces the Keraunos observatory in its bulletin of Monday June 17. These first storms should quickly increase in intensity, while spreading towards the Rhône and Burgundy, indicates the meteorological institute.

Locally, this could result in violent hail, as well as heavy rain, associated with wind gusts sometimes close to 90 km/h, according to the latest forecasts. Thunderstorm activity should decline late in the evening in these regions.

Other storms will then take over around midnight between Gironde and Charente-Maritime. In the second part of the night, they will progress towards the Center, while producing intense electrical activity, heavy rain and wind gusts sometimes close to 100 km/h locally. Sometimes heavy hail may also accompany these storm systems.

And in other regions?

Elsewhere in the territory, the risk of thunderstorms will be relatively low. Unsettled weather will continue throughout the afternoon from Brittany to Ile-de-France and Lorraine, in the form of isolated and brief thunderstorms, according to the latest forecasts. Other storms could also form during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday from Pays de la Loire to Ile-de-France.
