The mayor of Lévis, Gilles Lehouillier, rejects the proposal to implement a rapid bus service (SRB) in his city as recommended by the report from the Infra sector of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ Infra). The minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches region, Bernard Drainville, argues for his part that when CDPQ Infra talks about SBR, it is simply talking about reserved lanes.

My understanding, after verification, is that what the Caisse actually proposed is to continue the work of building reserved lanes that Lévis has already startedsays Bernard Drainville, on the sidelines of an announcement on an affordable housing project for seniors in Lévis. What the Caisse calls an SRB, in fact, are reserved lanes.

In a written response, CDPQ Infra immediately contradicts this interpretation of the minister. The rapid bus service (SRB) recommended by CDPQ Infra as part of the City Plan is not limited to the use of reserved lanes, but aims to establish a real SRBshe emphasizes.

The Fund then lists the different criteria which distinguish rapid service from simple reserved lanes. For her, it is of an articulated bus system which circulates in a right-of-way physically separated from automobile traffic lanestaking advantage a traffic light synchronization system that gives priority and comfortable stations that provide a better level of service to users.

The minister and the mayor ignored the recommendation, intending simply to continue the reserved lane project along Guillaume-Couture Boulevard, started by the City of Lévis. 116, it will give us a magnificent backbone for public transportation in Lévis. Confusion over insertion

For the mayor, the 3 billion bill for the SRB is too high and reserved lanes are the more affordable option.

It will be much lower cost than an SRB, because for the SRB you have a central platform, but the problem is that we are on reserved lanes, so if we take an SRB, we have to start all our work againhe adds, ignoring the possibility of inserting the SRB laterally along the boulevard, where the reserved lanes are currently planned.

However, in the section dealing with the SRB in Lévis, the CDPQ Infra report presents precisely an illustration of this type of integration, where the public transport routes are located on the edge of the artery. The insertion of the SRB on Boulevard Guillaume-Couture will be done in reserved lanes over the entire length, on either side of the boulevard, leaving room for road traffic in the centerunderlines the Fund in its report.

In 2017, the mayor of Lévis gave up on the old SRB project which linked the two banks of the river, arguing that it cost too much for the potential benefits it would have brought.

The renewal of the third link and trust

On vacation last week, during the government’s exit on the CDPQ Infra report, the mayor of Lévis, Gilles Lehouillier, finally had the opportunity to return to the comments made by government representatives who announced a new project of third link.

I think it is good news that the government is taking the decision to move forward to create the motorway link between the two banks.rejoices Gilles Lehouillier, who expressed his disappointment after CDPQ Infra did not recommend this proposal.

Even if it has wavered at different times in recent months, the mayor of Lévis was also able to reaffirm his confidence in the Legault government. He wants the third link project to take on the same importance as the Quebec tramway project.

I have complete confidence in the government, to the extent that we will move forward on both issues at the same time, the tramway and the third link.hopes Gilles Lehouillier.

Other supporters of the project, however, are not as confident as he is. me Guilbault, but I wonder if I’ll see that in my lifetime, a third highway link. They’ve announced it three times now. There is nothing serious about this announcement. We want the government to come to us with serious studies and a rigorous financial plan”,”text”:”I don’t want to say that I don’t believe Ms. Guilbault, but I wonder if I’m going to see that in my lifetime, a third motorway link. Remember that we are very determined. We want it to happenpromises Bernard Drainville for his part.

Joël Lightbound “doubtful”

Federal MP Joël Lightbound, also present for the announcement on the housing project for seniors, allowed himself to doubt the CAQ government’s arguments to justify the project. Let’s say that I can understand the population having a little difficulty following the position of the Quebec government. I’m going to leave it to the government to put together its argument, but I’m sure I’m a little doubtfulhe remarks.

Without supporting evidence, Minister Drainville simply repeated: 500trucks per day, one bridge. If we lose this bridge, we will have to go through Trois-Rivières.”,”text”:”10,500 trucks per day, one bridge.
