Tennis: Belinda Bencic gains 300 places in the WTA rankings

Eliminated in the second round at the ITF tournament in Hamburg, Saint-Welsh Belinda Bencic jumped 300 places in the WTA rankings. It must be said that the 27-year-old player had lost all her points after a one-year break, during which she gave birth to her first child. It is now ranked 913th in the world.

No Swiss player has returned to the top-100. The best of them, Viktorija Goljubic, ranks 108th, while Jil Teichmann occupies 137th place.

Besides Bencic, two Swiss women have made a nice leap forward in the hierarchy. The young Zurich resident Celine Naef (19 years old) won the ITF tournament in Pétange, Luxembourg, on Sunday, without losing a single set. The 26-year-old Ticino Susan Bandecchi did the same at the Ismaning tournament, near Munich, also ITF. Naef gained 36th rank and is ranked 173rd in the world. Now 218th, Bandecchi, for his part, has surpassed 58 opponents.

Aryna Sabalenka, semi-finalist of the WTA Masters on Saturday, remains well at the top of the world rankings on Monday, still ahead of Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, respectively eliminated in the pools and winner of these Masters.
