Gasoline prices: it’s a good time to fill up in several regions

The price of gasoline is below the realistic price calculated by CAA-Quebec in the majority of regions at the start of the week.

In the Capitale-Nationale region, for example, the average price at the pump is 166.4¢ per liter, while the realistic price is 175.4¢ per liter.

CAA-Quebec’s realistic price is calculated by region based on the acquisition cost of gasoline and the average retail margin over the previous 52 weeks.

As of June 14, only the regions of Estrie, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Lanaudière showed an average price higher than the realistic price.

Among the places where the average price is considered the most advantageous are Bas-Saint-Laurent, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Capitale-Nationale, where the prices are respectively 7.3, 8.8 and 9 below below the realistic price.

Motorists interviewed by TVA Nouvelles on Monday morning said they were happy with this respite, although it was impossible to determine its duration.

“I think it’s more affordable than it was then, it’s more expensive than during the pandemic, but I think it’s still relatively affordable right now,” says one of them.

“It’s stable, but it’s clear that you have to know the spots, adds a trucker. There are certain places in town where it’s quite a bit cheaper than elsewhere.”

Prices could fluctuate as the Quebec National Day long weekend approaches when some merchants may be tempted to increase their margins.
