Natural Gas: Perenco strengthens its presence in Central Africa with massive investments from 2025 | Gabonmediatime.com

Perenco, a Franco-British oil group, plans to consolidate its position in Central Africa and increase its production in this strategic region for the year 2025. According to information provided by the American agency Bloomberg Africa, the company plans to invest 1.5 billion dollars, or around 900 billion FCFA, in its African operations. This represents 75% of its overall investment budget, estimated at $2 billion.

These funds will mainly be used for drilling and production activities in five countries: Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This choice is based on the significant hydrocarbon potential of this region, marked by recent discoveries of deposits and the renewal of several oil contracts with these States. Perenco has also acquired additional assets in some oil companies to strengthen its position in the region.

Perenco accentuates the development of the gas sector

The Central African region holds some of the largest proven oil and gas reserves on the African continent, providing Perenco with strong growth prospects. According to Perenco CEO, Armel Simondin, “ gas plays a key role in the energy transition and constitutes a very important part of our future strategy “. The group aims to target unexploited gas reserves along the African coast to support this strategy, with the aim of reaching an overall production of 500,000 barrels per day.

In addition to production activities, Perenco also places particular emphasis on compliance with environmental standards and the integration of local communities into its operations. The group works with local governments to ensure sustainable management of natural resources, while committing to reducing its carbon footprint through technologies to capture and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This colossal investment, announced for 2025, should therefore position the group both as a leader in the sector in terms of production but also in terms of practices and compliance with standards.
