Celine Dion: what does she think of her voice since the illness? His unfiltered response

With the stiffness she experiences on a daily basis, Céline Dion had to learn to re-tame her body, but also her voice. This Sunday, June 16, 2024, she spoke about this subject in a special interview for the 8 p.m. news on TF1. And his explanations are unequivocal….

It is a confidence that must break the heart. Céline Dion, the famous Quebec singer, was the exceptional guest of the newspaper 8 p.m. on TF1 this Sunday June 16. A highly anticipated moment for fans of the singer since during this exclusive interview with Anne-Claire Coudray, the star shared moving confidences about her fight against stiff man syndrome, a rare illness which forced her to cancel several of his tours. She explained that symptoms can come on suddenly, sometimes for a few minutes, other times for several hours. While she lifted the veil a year and a half earlier on the illness, Céline Dion confided that the first signs appeared almost 17 years ago. “It started in the voice. I tried to find bridges, tunnels, to take my voice to different places,” she declared. She described the spasms she felt as a sensation where “Suddenly, nothing works anymore.” For years, she had to take medication to control these spasmswithout ever revealing anything to its audience.

A new voice to tame

During the interview, Anne-Claire Coudray addressed a sensitive subject: the singer’s voice. “I would like us to talk about your voice. We see you in the documentary [Je suis Céline Dion, NDLR] return to the studio, discover a new voice, more hoarse, perhaps less powerful. Have you since managed to tame it and perhaps love it?”. If the journalist showed a big smile, it was with a firm tone and a closed face that Céline Dion responded straight away: “No”. Then she hurried to elaborate. “I don’t refuse her, I try to tame her”, she revealed before doing a few short sung phrases to illustrate the impacts of the spasms on her voice. “I couldn’t do it anymore because I was stiff from head to toe.” Despite this, Celine Dion persists: she will return to the stage. “I don’t know when, but I’m going to come back on stage. And I’m not going to tame this voice which was very difficult for me, because to hear a voice which is not mine… It’s a voice that needs rehabilitation, it’s coming slowly!” Very contrasting statements…
