Israel fears the worst. Faced with the security threat posed by the France – Israel match, the country called on its fellow citizens to avoid going to the Stade de France on Thursday.

“The National Security Council recommends that Israelis abroad take precautions (…) particularly during the coming week, to completely avoid going to sporting events and cultural events attended by Israelis , especially at the next match of the Israel team in ,” this organization which reports to the Prime Minister’s office said in a press release.

A match under surveillance

Considered “high risk” by the French authorities, the France-Israel match on Thursday at the Stade de France will take place one week to the day after that between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel-Aviv (5-0), which was followed by violence targeting Israeli supporters in the Dutch city.

Of the 80,000 seats available at the stadium, only 15,000 to 20,000 have been sold. This is the lowest total ever recorded for a Blues match.

4,000 law enforcement officers will be mobilized to ensure the safety of spectators inside and around the stadium. Controls to access the stadium will also be reinforced.
