The long-awaited awakening! The Union crushes Genk and finally holds its benchmark match!

Union Saint-Gilloise completely dominated Genk this Sunday and very logically won with a river score: 4-0!

This Sunday evening, Union Saint-Gilloise hosted KRC Genk, leader of the Pro League. A meeting at the top, between two teams with very different dynamics.

In difficulty in recent weeks, it is nevertheless the Union which has started the meeting best. Genk’s defense is immediately put under pressure.

Lapoussin blows up Duden Park!

The Unionists took advantage of this strong moment to take the advantage. It is Loic Lapoussin who deceives Van Crombrugge with a splendid strike at the entrance to the rectangle (5th, 1-0). A great story for the one who started the season in core B.

Stunned, Genk fails to create enough to worry the Unionist defense. On the other hand, the Union is rather in control and is trying to cause harm in front, notably via Promise David.

Despite a lot of intensity, the technical level is quite low. We had to wait until the 32nd minute for an opportunity, and a shot quite clearly above the mark from Bonsu Baah.

Genk strength at the end of the first half but is quite imprecise. The same Bonsu Baah forces Moris to make a fairly easy save (39th).

Lapoussin again, and Promise David knock out Genk

The Union took advantage of the last minutes of the first half to strike very hard. Lapoussin wanders into the rectangle and places a perfect cross on the head of Promise David (2-0, 45th+1). The Union returns to the locker room with a two-goal lead!

Genk picked up cold as soon as they return from the locker room

The Union is holding its ground and does not intend to let this victory slip away. On an Ivanovic shot deflected by Van Crombrugge, Sadiki follows and already makes it 3-0 (51st). It’s party time in the aisles of the Joseph Marien stadium.

Genk, like a kamikaze exit by Van Crombrugge on Lazarus (57th), is totally strawberry. The Limburg goalkeeper must then save the furniture on a big opportunity from Lapoussin, the best Unionist on the field this evening.

The wonder of Promise David!

The men of Thorsten Fink are not at the end of their troubles. On a long ball, Promise David subtly dribbles past his opponent and goes against Van Crombrugge. The attacker concludes perfectly, it’s 4-0 (64th)!

The Union wanders around and indulges in some follies. Boufal, who has just entered the game, attempts a lob from 50 meters which passes…just above (73rd).

Non-match for Genk, reference for the Union

Resigned, Genk will offer absolutely nothing in the last quarter of an hour while the Union becomes more wait-and-see. The Pro League leader had a real non-match this evening.

Unlike the Union, who had an almost perfect match and gained strength throughout the match. The long-awaited click?! The future will tell us…
