10 concerts to see at the Francos de Montréal

Until June 22, Place des Festivals will resonate in French with the 35th edition of the Francos de Montréal. Here are 10 moments not to be missed.

Lili St-Cyr – Musical theater

At the New World Theater

Benoit Landry directs this high-calibre show which mixes genres and takes you on a journey through time. Set in Montreal in the 1940s, this piece of musical theater invites us to meet Lili St-Cyr (Marie-Pier Labrecque) who embodies feminism and speaking out in a nocturnal setting during the golden age of cabarets.

The King, the Rose and the Lou[p]

8 p.m., at the MTelus

A true sensation as a trio and icons of their generation individually, the three acolytes Ariane Roy, Thierry Larose and Lou-Adriane Cassidy invite the public to their shared apotheosis. Nearly ten musicians are gathered on stage to enhance the sound of their respective repertoires. The three voices intermingle like the three colors of a very good ice cream.

Arielle Soucy opens the show with her album There’s nothing I’m notpublished last fall and a critical darling in 2023. It has also just earned a place in the preliminary list for the prestigious Polaris Prize.

Apple

9 p.m., on the Bell Stage

The French singer-songwriter is one of the very good hits of the 2024 program. The one who now lives between Quebec and France stood out this year with the release of a double album, Seasons. His voice oscillates between all the possibilities. Gently, without appearing fragile, she hypnotizes with her very fine lyrics and her soothing melodies.

Daniel Boucher

7 p.m., at the Fifth Room at Place des Arts

Daniel Boucher has been leading his little revolution since November, offering his new album exclusively on his website, in exchange for a subscription of five dollars per month to his content. With great blasts of tunes – Vol. 2 brings together new songs that were written recently or a long time ago. For non-Daniel Boucher subscribers, the Cinquième Salle will therefore be the place of choice to discover this new material.

The Little Kings – Great tribute show to Jean-Pierre Ferland

8 p.m., on the Bell Stage

Under the artistic direction of Ariane Moffatt, the artists Adib Alkhalidey, Ariane Roy, Hubert Lenoir, Karkwa, Lou-Adriane Cassidy, Marie-Denise Pelletier, Marie-Pierre Arthur, Martha Wainwright, Patrice Michaud, Thierry Larose, Soleil Launière and Vincent Vallières will perform the greatest hits of the artist who left us last April. For people who live far from the metropolis, the show will also be broadcast live on the web.

Michelle & The Boys

9:30 p.m., on the Spotify stage

The European pop of Hugo Sechet on guitar, Axel Pasquier on drums and Louise Duigou on vocals is one of the good musical surprises of the last two years. Their first homonymous EP, released in 2023, is as reminiscent of La Femme as L’Impératrice or even Niagara. We must take advantage of their visit to Quebec for a wild dance.

Friday June 21

The Three Agreements

9 p.m., on the Bell stage

It’s impossible not to sing along to all of the Trois Accords’ hits, which stand out as the catchiest earworms of the last two decades. Of Lucille And Saskatchewan has Corinne Passing by I love your grandmother, Bamboula, Shoplifting, Grand champion Or Dolphins and unicornsit will be impossible not to come home with a chorus in mind.

Rau_Ze

7 p.m., on the Spotify stage

La Révélation Radio-Canada is quite simply a revelation for many fans who have completely fallen under the spell of the album’s inventive R&B jazz sound. Turn our lives around, published in the spring. Winner of the Francouvertes 2022, the duo stands out with its unrivaled energy on stage. It will be worth the trip.

Zaho de Sagazan

8 p.m., at the MTelus

The new French sensation returns to Montreal after selling out Club Soda last April. His album The symphony of lightning leaves no one indifferent, his four Victoires de la Musique acting as supporting proof.

In the opening act, it was the Montreal duo Bibi Club, who offered the new album Guard light this spring, which will awaken the crowd with its ethereal electro ambiances.

Beyries

8 p.m., at the Maisonneuve theater at Place des Arts

The singer-songwriter with a warm and comforting voice like a hot water bottle one evening in February will present to the public her first full album in French, Fire in the lilacs, published last February. Bewitching since Landingher first opus released in 2017, the musician continues her evolution, reinvents herself and always gives her audience a few thrills of beauty in performance.
