For Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the New Popular Front agreement “is not a matter of people but of a program”

Asked by 20 minutesJean-Luc Mélenchon denied on Saturday endangering the New Popular Front following the controversy surrounding the investitures of La France insoumise (LFI) in the legislative elections. “The agreement is signed”underlined the “rebellious” leader. “This agreement is not a matter of people but of a program”added Mr. Mélenchon, accused by his allies of “purge”.

Danielle Simonnet, elected in Paris, as well as Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière, deputies from Seine-Saint-Denis, who embody discordant voices within LFI, were not reinvested. “Lifetime investitures do not exist. But political coherence and loyalty in the first left-wing parliamentary group are also a requirement to govern”considers Mr. Mélenchon.

The former presidential candidate also judges that Adrien Quatennens, convicted of domestic violence and reinvested “was tried and he served his sentence. […] Now, some are adding a penalty of ineligibility under the threat of making everyone lose. I am appalled “.

Asked about the possibility that he would run for Matignon in the event of a victory for the left, the “rebel” assured: ” I’m not asking for anything. » “I’m not building a career. The rebels produced capable leaders. When Léon Blum became head of government in 1936, he was not at the level of Manuel Bompard, nor Mathilde Panot or Clémence Guetté, he was an art critic and Marxist leader of the Socialist Party. » “I’m not building a career”he insisted, adding on the subject of a possible candidacy for the legislative elections: “LFI had to cede one hundred and thirty constituencies! I won’t take anyone’s place. I proved that I could be useful in other ways. »

While the economic program of the New Popular Front is strongly criticized by the executive, Mr. Mélenchon has brushed aside these accusations – “old refrains against the Popular Front! » – and claimed that “Macronie has already ruined France! […] The question is not “how much does it cost?” but “who pays?” »he explained, specifying that he wanted to involve the richest.

“Bardella is Macron made worse. He already has the policy. He has just accepted retirement at 64”he also attacked, castigating “social scam” which, according to him, the leader of the National Rally (RN) represents.

Asked about a possible voting instruction in the event of an RN-Macronist duel, Mr. Mélenchon kicked in: ” We’ll see… “

Mr. Mélenchon also denounced the accusations of anti-Semitism against him and his party: “The program of the New Popular Front engages the fight against anti-Semitism. But also against Islamophobia and hatred of Muslims. Defeating racism and racist policies is decisive. » “I have always said that attacking a rave party on the evening of October 7 was a terrorist act. […] But we will never legitimize the right to revenge. Nor especially the ongoing massacres. Our line is international law, period. »
