Three of the four tenants had to jump from the first floor, at least one of them injuring an ankle, to escape the flames: a fire broke out a little before 7 a.m. on Sunday November 10, 2024, at No. 1 of the route de Triou in Mougon, delegated commune of Aigondigné, a large building divided into three accommodations on several levels.
The trio, a woman and two men aged around twenty, were taken care of by firefighters and transported to the Niort hospital center: two of them had started to inhale smoke.
Two of the three uninhabitable dwellings
In total, around twenty firefighters were mobilized to put out the flames: three hours after the alert call, they left the scene. Unlike the owners, a couple protecting access to the stairwell using plywood panels.
The fourth tenant, 19 years old, was still there: she had left her apartment after seeing the flames through the glass door. Only its T2 is still habitable.
Another outbreak of fire
According to various testimonies, the flames started from a garbage container located just in front of the stairwell, the voluntary nature of the act leaving little doubt : moreover, another trash fire was noted less than 200 m away, at the start of rue René-Gaillard, not far from the football stadium of the same name.
The gendarmes also came: they opened an investigation, in the hands of soldiers from the Melle brigade community.
