Formula 1 | Horner sees 'terrific' match-up between Hamilton and Verstappen in 2025

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner expects the rivalry between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in to be renewed next year when the British driver joins Ferrari.

Since the two clashed in 2021, resulting in one of the most controversial season endings in F1 history, the on-track battles between them have been cruelly limited, thanks to Mercedes' lack of competitiveness since the era of ground effect.

There have been occasions this year, notably mid-season, when Ferrari faltered and Hamilton won two of Mercedes' three Grands Prix, including a stirring home triumph at Silverstone.

But Ferrari has returned to the front to the point of threatening McLaren in the constructors' championship and therefore establishing itself as a contender for both titles in 2025.

This bodes well for Hamilton's transfer, with Horner saying he will be “very interesting to see how Lewis will acclimatize to life at Ferrari”.

“He obviously comes from a very comfortable environment, which he has known very well for 10 years, more than 10 years even. So it will be a change for him.”

“Charles Leclerc is another very fast driver. But Ferrari is a team that seems to be gaining good momentum. For sure, a driver of Lewis' quality will always be a challenger.”

“He could change teams at just the right time. He's obviously seen things, reasons why he chose to change teams because he believes in the future of Ferrari, so it will be fascinating to see how It’s happening.”

“And yes, this promises another fantastic match between Max and him next year if the forces present remain those of this end of the season. 2025 will be an exceptional year I think.”
