The announcement was made this Friday, November 8 by an American Defense official. The objective for these private military companies is to ensure the repair and maintenance of equipment that was provided by the United States to the Ukrainian army in the war between it and Russia.
Ils “will be far from the front lines and will not participate in combat against the Russian army”, said an American Defense official on condition of anonymity during the announcement, this Friday, November 8, of the sending of private military companies to Ukraine.
According to this official, echoed by LCI, the latter will therefore not be in direct contact with Russian soldiers, but will have the mission of helping the Ukrainian army by repairing and maintaining “quickly the equipment provided by the United States, as needed, so that they (Ukrainian soldiers) can quickly return to the front.”
He adds: “We are taking this action because some of the US equipment supplied to Ukraine – or which will be supplied to Ukraine in the coming months – such as F-16s or Patriot air defense systems require specific technical expertise to be maintained”, and specifies that this decision was taken “after a careful assessment of the risks”.
As a reminder, the coming to power of Donald Trump during the last American election arouses concern on the side of Kyiv. Indeed, according to The Washington Post, the 47th President of the United States would not hesitate to block new American aid, thus weakening “Ukraine's ability to fight.”
