“I will fight, day and night…” eco-pastoralism takes hold in Espalion

the essential
The young Espalionnais company “Eco-pastoralisme12-Solutions en eco-pasture”, located in the economic center, is establishing itself sustainably in Aveyron, and has several projects in the city.

Installation of permanent fences, additional brush clearing, eco-grazing, monitoring-grazing application, management of invasive and invasive exotic plants… It offers various activities.

Without any surprise, the main breed chosen by the eco-grazer-breeder is the sasi ardi (originally from the Basque Country), commonly called the bush sheep, with an average size, vivacious and gregarious, with great hardiness, and exceptional skills in ecological land maintenance. Moreover, its favorite terrain is the undergrowth and the heath. Threatened with extinction, it was only recognized in 2016 by the Ministry of Agriculture. “I will fight, day and night, so that this very ancient breed becomes the queen of eco-grazing; she has all the qualities,” declares the business manager.

The safeguarding and conservation of the sasi ardi breed involves partnerships with breeders from the cradle of the breed and associations for the preservation of the breed, highlighting its qualities: management of the conservatory herd in eco-grazing and eco-pastoralism on meadows, wastelands, embankments, land prone to overgrowth, natural spaces, etc.

The conservation of the different strains of the breed, including the very rare retort, requires the reproduction and creation of a breeding stock nursery (males and females) from 2025 to meet the needs of new breeders. Together, they will defend and preserve this rustic Franco-Spanish breed with exceptional qualities and abilities. Suffice it to say that saving the breed is not an empty word!

Sheep and horses: to date, the company relies on a herd of 70 sheep which will eventually evolve. It is necessary to remember that eco-grazing is a “green” method of landscape maintenance which allows on average 20% to 40% savings. To raise awareness among elected officials, business leaders, and citizens, events such as “Eco-pasture and landscape meetings” will be organized in 2025.

Note that the eco-grazing company now has two branches in West Aveyron “to be as close as possible to its animals and its customers”.
