L’Regional health agency (ARS) Île-de-France intensifies the campaign of the National Cancer Institute (INCa) to prevent infections has human papillomavirus (HPV). This involves supporting the relaunch of the vaccination gratuite for 5th grade students in Ile-de-France colleges, active until the end of the school year.
Recommended since 2012 for girls and since 2021 for boys aged 11 and over, HPV vaccination protects against cancers linked to the virus, including cervical cancer. In Île-de-France, the 2024-2025 campaign has already started in several departments and will extend to all by January. The vaccination schedule is based on two doses spaced 5 to 13 months apart, with an organization adapted to increase parents’ awareness.
Vaccination has progressed in Île-de-France
Last year, 16% of 5th grade studentsÎle-de-France received a first dose in colleges, while vaccination in town has also progressed (57,000 additional doses). Now, 46% of girls and 22% of 15-year-old boys have started their vaccination schedule, a clear increase compared to 2022.
To reduce disparities between departments, the ARS is banking on accessibility of vaccination in middle schools and on a reinforced communication campaign. Posters in transport, sponsorship on social networks and information supports in colleges are deployed to mobilize parents and young people around this public health issue. A second wave of communication will follow in early 2025.
