Two days after the disappearance of Françoise Hardy, her son, Thomas Dutronc returned to the stage. A test for the artist who appeared overwhelmed by grief.

His disappearance saddened the whole of France. On June 11, Thomas Dutronc announced on Instagram the death of his mother, Françoise Hardy. The musical icon of the 60s was eighty years old and had been battling cancer for several years. A disappearance which caused a wave of melancholy and tribute in France. Several celebrities and fans shared their sadness on social networks. But it is for his only son, Thomas Dutronc, that the ordeal is the most difficult. The singer, particularly close to his mother, is overwhelmed by grief but he has still decided to maintain his performance at the Jazz Opale festival, in Neufchpatel-Hardelot, in Pas-de-Calais. The day before his performance, the organization of the event had confirmed his arrival.

It was therefore with a heavy heart that Thomas Dutronc took the stage this Thursday, June 13 to the ovation of the public. A difficult moment for the artist who failed to perform “L’Amitié”, one of Françoise Hardy’s flagship titles. So it was the musicians who took over. “There is a lot of emotion in our home, I tried to sing two of my mother’s songs, but my throat is tight,” he confided on stage. Jacques Dutronc’s son finally managed to sing a few sentences: “Sometimes sadness slips into the eyes […] you can go deep into the clouds. » He then subtly mentioned the death of his mother: “In England we say “elephant in the room” (editor’s note: a subject we don’t want to talk about) We can’t translate into French but for me, my “elephant in the room”, it’s my mother’s departure towards other skies”, he concluded. An evening filled with emotions for Thomas Dutronc but also for the public.
