POLITICS – Everything but ” the extremes “. While the dissolution of the Assembly plunges the French political landscape into uncertainty before the next two elections on June 30 and July 7, the time has come for electoral hypotheses. Asked this Friday, June 14, about the prospect of a duel between the National Rally and the Popular Front during the second round of the 2024 legislative elections, Yaël Braun-Pivet, outgoing president of the National Assembly, decided not without difficulty.

“I hope that the French will be confronted as little as possible” at this choice, blows on TF1 the candidate of Renaissance, campaigning for her re-election in the 5th constituency of Yvelines during the legislative elections. “What I would recommend if necessary is that we vote without any difficulty for environmentalist, communist, socialist candidates”she then declared.

“I saw them in the hemicycle, they were with us to defend the values of the Republic”, justifies the Renaissance candidate. On the other hand, “I saw to what extent for two years France Insoumise disrupted the hemicycle, I saw them day after day carry excess and excess”, she denounces, as you can hear below.

“We must do everything so that the extremes do not come to power, the extreme right like LFI”, believes Yaël Braun Pivet, embarrassed by the presence of the party led by Mathilde Panot in the left-wing coalition bringing together under the same banner of the New Popular Front, the PS, the Ecologists and the PCF.

In his constituency, Yaël Braun Pivet won 64.62% of the votes in the second round of the legislative elections in 2022, compared to 35.38% for his NUPES opponent, Sophie Thevenet. The New Popular Front has not yet announced its candidate for this constituency for the next election.

Manuel Valls will abstain

For his part, the former Minister of the Interior Manuel Valls, questioned this Friday morning on the same subject on LCI, did not hide his discomfort. “I will tell you things very clearly: I will choose neither for the RN nor France Insoumise”, he declared, castigating parties “who lie to the French, particularly on a social and economic level”.

“In the second round, if there is a candidate from the current majority (Renaissance) facing the National Rally, Republicans who refuse the agreement with the RN, socialists, ecologists, communists, at that time the French people will be able to make this choice”, he believes, categorically refusing to call for a vote for the New Popular Front because of the presence of La France Insoumise.
