“Here we go, the tram is folded (sic)”: what happened this Thursday, June 13, at 9:22 p.m., in front of Lyon Part-Dieu station in the 3rd arrondissement? This is a question that many passers-by asked themselves when faced with a TCL T1 tram seeming to have derailed upon leaving the Gare Part-Dieu Vivier-Merle station.

A routing error

Questioned this morning, Keolis indicated to news Lyon that it is not a derailment, but a simple “switching error”. The company that operates the TCL in Lyon explains that the switch changed accidentally when the tram was passing over it.

The front part therefore left on one side, while the rear part remained on the other. This incident took place during a turnaround maneuver: the T1 tram changed lanes after dropping off its passengers at the temporary terminus of the line (Part-Dieu Viviers Merle – Halle Tony Garnier) due to the major work underway in Charpennes.

Following this “technical problem”, the tram was immobilized on both tracks until 11 p.m., according to Keolis. It is for this reason that line T1 went into partial service, no longer serving this station and stopping at the Part-Dieu – Auditorium stop.
