Two consecutive accidents wreaked havoc on the RD83 and the A35, in the Strasbourg-Colmar direction, this Thursday morning, during rush hour.

Shortly before 8 a.m., a car hit the one in front of it while slowing down shortly before the exit for Guémar.

The accident did not cause any injuries but required the neutralization of the expressway, creating a significant slowdown.

Six vehicles involved

About half an hour later, a pileup involving six vehicles occurred approximately 3 km upstream, near Saint-Hippolyte.

This accident did not cause any injuries either, but it blocked both lanes, with traffic having to be carried only on the emergency lane.

More than 12 km of traffic jam

Around 9 a.m., the traffic jam reached Ebersheim and stretched for more than 12 km.

At 9:20 a.m., the CEA roads PC indicated the resumption of traffic near Guémar, then a few minutes later the reopening of the slow lane near Saint-Hippolyte.

Shortly before 10 a.m., all lanes were reopened and the traffic jam, which still extended over 11km, was being resolved.

The police from the Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine motorway platoon went to the scene. They carried out alcohol and drug tests which came back negative.

Patrols from the European Community of Alsace were also on site.

And 3.5 km of traffic jam on top of that…

Furthermore, this Thursday morning, traffic was also disrupted on the A35, in the same direction, by mowing work causing 3.5 km of traffic jams between Bourgheim and Niedernai.
