The President of the Republic of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina, accompanied by his wife, is currently visiting Geneva, Switzerland, to take part in the forum of world leaders organized as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) which has been held there since yesterday and until tomorrow.

President Rajoelina did not miss the opportunity to speak briefly with the Secretary General of UNCTAD, emphasizing the need for “economic balance” for Madagascar and the importance of the Big Island’s participation in this forum. He also highlighted the efforts made by the Malagasy State in promoting industry and trade, particularly through the ODOF (One district, one factory) project.

On Wednesday June 12, during the opening ceremony jointly chaired by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Rebeca Grynspan, President Andry Rajoelina took the floor to insist on a “reflection on the world of today and tomorrow. He will also speak during the leaders’ dialogue session on the main theme of the forum: “Charting a new path for development in a changing world”.

Statistics recently published by UNCTAD highlight the situation of Madagascar’s trade balance, which remains in deficit with a value of merchandise exports of 3.7 billion dollars compared to 5.6 billion for imports in 2022.

The active participation of the President of the Republic of Madagascar in this forum demonstrates his government’s commitment to working in collaboration with the international community to overcome the economic challenges facing the country. This forum provides a unique opportunity to share innovative ideas and collaborate with other global leaders to chart a new and sustainable path for development in an ever-changing world.
