Forty skippers are preparing to cross the oceans this Sunday with the big start of the Vendée Globe. These sailors will compete for one of the most prestigious titles in the world of sailing, with a significant check at stake. The overall prize fund for the event amounts to 800,000 euros.

They are in search of the most coveted title in the world of sailing: this Sunday, at 1:02 p.m. precisely, the 40 skippers registered for the Vendée Globe will set off for the 10th edition, from the town of Les Sables-d'Olonne as at 'used to. The field of participants is expanded with each edition, and in 2024, six women and 34 men will set off from Vendée.

On site, the fervor is already palpable among the fans, a few days before the start of the event. Everyone wants to admire these modern-day heroes, who set off on a journey of almost three months, alone and without assistance or stopover.

A total grant of 800,000 euros

The 40 skippers will try to glean the prestigious Vendée Globe bronze trophy, and with it, the check awarded to the winner. This year, the overall prize pool for the event amounts to 800,000 euros according to the 2024 regulations. And the successor to Yannick Bestaven, winner in 2020-2021, will win the sum of 200,000 euros. The second sailor who returns to Les Sables-d'Olonne will leave with 140,000 euros, and the third, 100,000 euros. Below, all the prizes reserved for the best skippers.

Prize money for the Vendée Globe 2024:

– 1st: 200,000 euros

– 2nd: 140,000 euros

– 3rd: 100,000 euros

– 4e: 80,000 euros

– 5e : 50,000 euros

– 6e : 40.000 euros

– 7e : 30.000 euros

– 8e: 25,000 euros

– 9e: 20,000 euros

– 10th: 15,000 euros

Still according to the regulations, competitors classified beyond the top 10 will share the remaining 100,000 euros, with sums which will remain lower than that of 10th place. In the event of numerous damages, and if less than ten sailors manage to finish the race, “the remainder of the amount of undistributed prizes will be distributed equally between all the classified skippers”, specifies the regulations.
