As a precautionary measure, the school management evacuated the establishment this Friday, November 8.
A suspicious smell of gas caused the firefighters to intervene this Friday, November 8, at the Jean-Vigo high school, in Millau. “As a precautionary measure, we cut off the gas supply and had all the students evacuate peacefully,” describes Philippe Cros, the principal of the establishment. Once the 13 firefighters, the five police officers and the GRDF teams were on site, any doubts were quickly resolved.
A defective gas cartridge
After inspecting the kitchens of the high school’s training restaurant, where the odor came from, the firefighters found the source. “We identified a gas cartridge, like those used in mobile camping devices, which was leaking,” explains Benoit Tomczak, the head of the Millau rescue center.
The system in place was quickly reduced. The firefighters still carried out reconnaissance throughout the building to remove doubts about another source. Traffic in the establishment’s parking lot was regulated by the national police while the firefighters intervened.
