INTERNATIONAL – Torrents in the streets, sweeping away cars in their path. New impressive floods hit Spain during the night of Thursday 7 to Friday 8 November. After a deadly episode in the Valencia region, torrential rains this time affected the north-east of the country. In the town of Cadaqués, located on the coast about thirty kilometers from the French border, the damage is impressive.
In the space of a few hours, the intense precipitation exceeded 100 liters of water per square meter, according to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia. This accumulation of water caused the river that runs through the city to overflow, and water began to invade the streets. “No one was injured”, reassure the firefighters

Unlike the heavy toll from the Valencia floods, which left at least 219 dead and 89 missing, this episode has so far caused no injuries. “No one was injured or trapped”declared the Catalan firefighters, information confirmed by the mayor of the town.
However, vigilance remains relevant. According to the latest weather forecasts, further rain is expected in the coming hours on the coast of the Pyrénées-Orientales and in Spain. An additional 20 to 40 mm could fall in the region. The regions of Baix Empordà and Alt, in eastern Catalonia, have been placed on orange alert.
On the other side of the border, Aude and Hérault were also placed on orange alert for the night from Friday to Saturday, due to a strong stormy episode and the risk of flooding. “The cumulative rainfall for this stormy episode can reach 80 to 120 mm locally 150/180 mm”, warns Météo France in its latest bulletin.
