A house caught fire late Wednesday afternoon in the center of the village of Soral, on the Route de Rougemont. The Geneva Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) is currently responding on site. In total, 25 professional firefighters and 20 volunteer firefighters from the town are trying to bring the fire under control.

“The fire started on the ground floor of an old house and spread to the roof which is now pierced,” specifies the lieutenant in charge of communications for the SIS, Nicolas Millot.

The roof of the adjacent house was also affected. Firefighters are trying to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the building.

Risks of collapse

Alerted at 5:02 p.m., the SIS arrived on site at 5:20 p.m. The Soral volunteer firefighters were already in action. Currently, nine vehicles, including two ambulances and five lances, are deployed in the small Champagne village.

“We find ourselves faced with an unstable building with a probable risk of part of the house collapsing. So the operation will continue for a long time,” notes the lieutenant.
