During the night from Thursday to Friday, a violent incident broke out in Amsterdam. Following Israeli football team Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 5-0 defeat to Ajax Amsterdam in the Europa League, Israeli fans were reportedly violently attacked while leaving the stadium. According to several videos, many Israeli fans were injured in these clashes.
A “rescue plane” dispatched to the site by the Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu announced the sending of two planes to evacuate Israeli citizens present in Amsterdam, declaring that “the shocking images of the attack will not go unanswered”. His office demanded rapid action from Dutch authorities to ensure the safety of Israelis.

“A pogrom in the heart of Europe”
Many politicians expressed their indignation. Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, called the incident “a pogrom in the heart of Europe in 2024.” Members of the American Congress denounced the inaction of the Dutch authorities, recalling the urgency of combating growing anti-Semitism.
