The Manguier school in Mamoudzou becomes the Paulette Henry school
The plaque will be unveiled in the morning by the municipality. This tribute was voted in December 2023, three months after the death of “Madame Paulette” at the age of 98. This first name will have marked generations of students and teachers in Mayotte.
She was the first high school graduate in the archipelago, after studying at the Jesuit school of Petite-Terre and in Madagascar. After training at the Antananarivo normal school, she returned to Mayotte in the 1950s. She taught at the Catholic mission and at the Jesuit school before being called to direct the Baobab elementary school. after its inauguration in 1962, which has since become the Manguier school.
Labattoirienne is also the first Mahorais academy inspector and education advisor. She was made a knight of the academic order, then of the national order of merit in 1979 for her contribution to national education in Mayotte.
