Who would have bet on such a result after such a meeting from OGC Nice? This Thursday evening, at the Allianz Riviera, Franck Haise’s team managed to take the point of the draw while trailing 2-0 by Twente.
As since the start of the season in Ligue Europa, Nice showed too many shortcomings to hope for a first victory. Jeremy has et Mohamed-Ali Cho gave a smile to their supporters by coming back to score.
On the other hand, mentally, Eaglets revolted at the end of the match to avoid defeat. That’s not enough to rejoice, but it’s not over yet, there are four days left to get things back on track.
A very bad start
From the 2nd minute of play, the Dutch playmaker Youri Reigns comes to alert Marcin Bulka. But, on the following action, following a poor restart from Nice, Twente combines well and the attacker Daan Rots opens the scoring in first intention (8ᵉ). It’s already a cold shower, but it’s so deserved Nice already seems to be gaining momentum in all areas of the game.
Issiaga Camara tries his luck immediately as a sign of revolt, but his shot misses the Pole Przemyslaw Tyton (9ᵉ). Then, in the space of ten minutes, the visitors became more and more dangerous by being much more courageous in the opposing final third. Fortunately Bun is there, because the men of Franck Haise undergo enormously.
In the meantime, Youssoufa Moukoko also tried, but his head missed. However, from the half-hour mark, the situation reversed and the Eaglets manage to gain more control of the ball.
So, Sofiane Diop gets a golden opportunity in the 42nd minute, but his shot is not well enough placed and Tyton skillfully deflects the ball. We will have to do better in the second half
Miracles exist
Returning from the locker room, the intensity is still not sufficient on the Nice side. The offensive animation does not make it possible to worry the opposing defense, the fault of a verticality which does not arrive. It is moreover Sam Lammers who forces again Bun to work on the 49th.
well that Gaëtan Laborde et Melvin Bard try their luck in quick succession a few minutes later (55th), it is the visitors who worsen the score. New cold snap at the 60th, when, on a poor revival of the EagletsTHE Dutch go up the block and manage to deceive Bun with the help of a very beautiful foray of Lammers. The former goalscorer PSV Eindhoven and theAtalanta Playing plays with a defense that is far too apathetic to make his team exult.
We then say to ourselves that it would take a miracle for theOGC Nice pull up the scoreboard. But this miracle has a name: Jeremy has. The Ivorian winger enters the field in the 65th minute in place of Laborde and immediately makes a difference. On a nice inspiration, the 27-year-old reduced the score with a superb curl on the left side which lodged in the opposite corner.
Hope is logically reborn… until the moment when Diop makes the regrettable mistake. Guilty of a tackle from behind on the captain Rulethe Moroccan attacking midfielder was immediately sent off by the Hungarian referee Balazs Berke (70ᵉ). Using VAR is useless, Diop leaves his teammates at ten…
Once again, hopes fade as the minutes tick by. For exactly ten minutes, Twente logically dominates the meeting, without driving the point home. And, visitors will pay hard for it, after Mohamed-Ali Cho suddenly wakes up the Allianz Riviera.
On a well-felt direct attack, Jonathan Clauss manages to send a fleeing cross to his teammate in attack who pushes the ball into the back of the net at the far post! 2-2 in the 88th minute of play, the men of Franck Haise came back out of nowhere.
And one good news leads to another: Twente ends at ten, two minutes later, after the second yellow card from the side Bart van Rooij. However, it will not go any further and Nice takes a second point in this Ligue Europa.
