Construction activity is in sharp decline in the region. Very few new constructions but the wood industry is holding up. We talk about it with Christian Kibamba, from the Fibois association.

What future for the wooden house? The market for individual homes is slowing down, but the future of wood construction is not necessarily gloomy according to Christian Kibamba, wood prescriber at Fibois, an association which defends the interests of the wood industry.

The timber industry is also observing the slowdown in construction, according to Christian Kibamba: ” the construction of individual wooden houses is declining but the construction of other wooden buildings seems to be holding up, particularly thanks to public construction “. Regulations favor the use of wood in construction, which makes it possible to maintain activity in this sector.

“The prospects remain good for the tertiary sector driven by public procurement”, specifies Christian Kibamba with a sector already ready: “we must provide answers to concerns and resolve the question of additional costs because it is still 5 to 10% more expensive” .
